Nagle Notes: Criticizing
Hello Friends,
It is another Nagle Notes. This week I’ve been thinking and discussing music and the art of criticizing “art”. What makes something good and what makes something bad? Then I came across this video about the importance of public critics and how it refines the product. Everyone still has an opinion and their own tastes but looking at something in depth can create a deeper affection for it.
What caused all this? Kacey Musgraves - High Horse. How does it sound like you are riding a horse but be disco pop at the same time? You can hear the aesthetic of the genre but it is not a “typical” country song.
How? The subtle lasso and banjo sounds. Without multiple listens focused on it, I would have never figured it out. (Here is a better description of how) Diving a little deeper can increase the appreciation for anything with a purpose behind it.
Onwards,
Nagle
