Nagle Notes: Lava

Hello people of the future,

Most of my thoughts come while listening to random music. But this week, it was a lyric from Burnin’ Up by the Jonas Brothers spurring my curiosity. The chorus starts with a line, “I’m sinking in the lava” and got me thinking about lava.

You would struggle to slip into any lava. Magma is composed of rock and extremely dense even though it’s liquid. You’d barbeque on the surface way before you could ever slip a toe in. A great example is this can in lava flow. Humans are bad at conceptualizing extremes. Whether hot and cold, old and new, or near and far. Like how a million and a billion sound similar but are vastly different. Understanding where your mind’s borders are is the first start to seeing the world a little clearer.

Onwards,
Nagle
