Nagle Notes: Feelings

Hello people of the future,

I’ve been reading a new book this week, Nonviolent Communication. The biggest takeaway so far has been the proper way to communicate your feelings. If you can replace the words “I feel” with “I think” you aren’t describing your emotion.

Here’s an example, “I feel you don’t love me.” In this, you aren’t communicating your feelings. You don’t love me isn’t a feeling. Instead “I feel anguished when you don’t reciprocate wanting to do things together.”

People will never understand what is going on inside your head unless you can effectively communicate. Choosing the proper words and phrasing can make all the difference.

Onwards,
Nagle
