Nagle Notes: Cryptic
Hello people of the future,
There is a human desire to solve the unknown, to understand what is happening around us. This has been the major driver of science and discoveries. From scavenger hunts and escape rooms, we create environments for us to sink our teeth into the unknown. One such example is a sculpture outside the CIA headquarters called Kryptos. Made in 1990, it contains 4 secret messages in seemingly random strings of letters. Three have been cracked and solved but passage 4 (only 97 letters) has withstood 30 years of the CIA, NSA and crypto fanatics alike trying to solve it. One day it might be cracked, but for now the mystery lives on. From Sherlock Holmes to Scooby-Doo, humanity loves solving capers.
If you’re interested in solving puzzles but not nearly as hard as codebreaking, check out Cracking the Cryptic. It is mostly Sudokus and Cryptic Crosswords. Mark and Simon do an amazing job of walking through the deductive logic of finding a finished solution.
Onwards,
Nagle
