Nagle Notes: Eye Contact

Hello people of the future,

Eye contact and staring are two different things. One (eye contact) is for visually telling the speaker that you are listening and engage, the other (staring) is intently looking most the time with wide eyes. For some people eye contact can be difficult, so having guidelines around the action can be really helpful. For example:

  • Try to have eye contact for 50% of the time while talking, 70% when listening

  • Hold for a bit then look away

  • start any conversation with good eye contact

  • Practice!

This can also be used by anyone who is trying to improve their social skills of listening and being engaged in a conversation.

Onwards,
Nagle
